Botanical splendors

It's that time of the year when -  if you live in a big city - you should plan your trip your local botanical garden.

This month the Brooklyn Botanic Garden opened the annual Orchid show with on display some mesmerizing vertical gardens
created by French botanist Patrick Blanc.

But of course, we equally love the permanent dwellers of the Brooklyn botanic garden:  The cherry blossoms, alpine flowers, azaleas, waterlilies and lotus flowers.  Just breathtaking.

Enjoy the spring awakening!

The gardens will look like the images below in about a month. All images sourced online from various visitors .

Apothecary

We always loved the look of old pharmacies, the laboratory, the oak wood counters and glass cabinets with all the little hand-labelled bottles of natural remedies... something really lost in today's way of caring.

On the topic, we are delighted this season to carry the beautiful classic American line of products Dr Hunter's original remedies in our store.
Their traditional products are faithful to the old-school way of caring and always affordable.

Did you know there is an actual pharmacy museum down in New Orleans? Would love to visit!!

Hope for Japan, a year later.

On March eleven, it will be the first anniversary of the tragedy that moved all eyes toward japan and we want to remind you that people are still very much in needs.
There will be a lot of tribute and memorial events throughout the city this weekend so check your local news and calendars.
Here is a link to the fund raising event in Brooklyn we'll be attending on Saturday the 10th.
We hope to see you there and share a smile, a glass of wine and a prayer for the great people of Japan.

Roll on Brooklyn!

Starting this summer, the city of New York will make 10 000 bicycles available for speedy rental throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.  System already widely used and enjoyed in cities like Paris and Washington.
Biking is one of the best way to get around, especially in the warm days and we are SOOOO looking forward to it!
Refer to the map below to see what hubs are covered.  More info about the bike-sharing program here.
In the mean time, we thought you would enjoy these beautiful portraits of everyday NYC bikers captured by the talented eye of Dmitry Gudkov
 Have a great weekend!
