Plant a Tree in NYC!

It's planting season and New York needs you for this great project:
Have you heard of Million Trees NYC? It's an ambitious program that aims to have New York City's residents plant one million new trees within the five boroughs over the next ten years.
We all wish we lived in a lush tree-lined street right?  Well, it is now possible to help transform the urban scape and green your neighborhood!
Trees can be planted on private properties such as front and backyards, commercial properties and community gardens.
You can get training to learn how to do it or just join a team of well-trained gardeners and be part of this sustainable project.

So if you are an enthusiastic, energetic, and environmentally–minded New Yorker, get dirty this spring and plant a tree for your city!
And get your kids involved. It's such a fun thing to do as a family.

Care, donate, educate, all details are here.

Growing local

There is a trend right now in Brooklyn that is the coolest thing ever and it's rooftop farming! For decades people have been trying to recreate nature within their urban landscape by creating rooftop gardens and it looks like new yorkers are now more and more educated and ready to take it to the next level to actually grow their own veggies and green food.  We all know the benefits of buying and eating local.  Definitely a step in the right direction for urban life.
Not to mention that rooftops gardens and farms are such an eye candy for a city like ours!

If you wish to visit a (rather large) public rooftop farm, here is the list of the 5 top urban farms in NYC.
